What is the history of Lugol's Iodine?

The solution was created by the French physician Jean Guillaume Auguste Lugol. He formulated the mixture of elemental iodine and potassium iodide in water as a medicinal remedy, specifically intending it to treat conditions such as scrofolus diseases.
